“Sandstone doesn’t just sit there — it tells a story written over millions of years. Every crack, every layer, every unexpected turn in a trail has something to teach us. That’s what I’m here to do: help people read that story while they’re actually walking it.”

— Petr Vomáčka
The Professional

Who Petr Is

Petr’s journey into geological hiking education began during his undergraduate studies at Charles University, where a semester-long field project in the Prachovské skály sparked a lifelong passion for understanding how water and time sculpt sandstone into dramatic landscapes. It’s this combination of rigorous science and genuine curiosity that drives everything he does.

After completing his geology degree in 2010, he spent three years working with the Czech Geological Survey before transitioning to outdoor education. Why the switch? Petr realized that geological knowledge could transform how people experience the trails they walk. A casual hike becomes something deeper when you understand what you’re looking at — when you can see the ancient processes unfolding in real stone.

Over the past 14 years, he’s personally hiked and documented more than 120 distinct routes throughout the Bohemian Paradise, photographing geological features and cross-referencing them with scientific literature. He doesn’t just point at rocks and say “that’s old.” He explains why they formed, how they eroded, what they reveal about climate and tectonics. His approach combines rigorous scientific accuracy with accessible storytelling, ensuring that both casual walkers and geology enthusiasts find value in his guides.

At Quelvox, Petr synthesizes his field observations with peer-reviewed research to create content that educates readers about sandstone formation, erosion dynamics, and the ecological significance of lookout tower locations. He’s particularly drawn to explaining how ancient geological processes remain visible in today’s landscape, making complex concepts tangible through real-world trail examples.

Education & Background

Experience & Training

Charles University in Prague, completed 2010. Specialized in Central European sandstone systems and erosion mechanics.

Czech Geological Survey

2010–2013: Field research coordinator. Conducted geological assessments and contributed to regional formation mapping.

120+ Documented Routes

Personally hiked, photographed, and analyzed over 120 trails throughout Bohemian Paradise since 2010.

Published Research

Contributed to three peer-reviewed geological surveys on Central European sandstone ecosystems and formation processes.

Prachovské Skály Specialist

14 years of focused research on sandstone formations, lookout tower routes, and geological interpretation in Prachovské skály.

What Petr Specializes In

Areas of Expertise

Bohemian Paradise Hiking Trails

In-depth knowledge of trail conditions, seasonal variations, and route difficulty assessment across the Bohemian Paradise region. He doesn’t just know where the trails are — he understands how they change throughout the year and which routes work best for different experience levels.

Prachovské Skály Formations

Extensive research into sandstone structure, geological history, and formation processes specific to Prachovské skály. His fieldwork has identified and documented the distinct geological layers and erosion patterns that make this region unique in Central Europe.

Sandstone Trail Education

Ability to translate complex geological concepts into accessible explanations that enhance visitor appreciation. He’s skilled at identifying what makes each trail geologically significant and explaining it in ways that don’t require a degree to understand.

Lookout Tower Routes & Analysis

Detailed documentation of tower locations, accessibility, geological significance, and the views they provide. He understands why towers are positioned where they are and what geological features they help visitors understand from above.

Erosion Dynamics & Geology

Deep knowledge of how water, weather, and time shape sandstone landscapes. He can read the landscape like a book — every feature tells a story about the geological processes that created it.

Geological Guide Development

Experience creating educational materials that balance scientific accuracy with practical trail information. His guides help people understand not just where to go, but what they’re actually looking at when they get there.
